News: Death of a Gael
Date: 9th June 2007

On Saturday 9th June 2007 Kevin Morris from Cashel passed away having just passed his 91st birthday. Kevin was recognised by the Greencastle Club in being appointed Vice president at the last A.G.M.

His connection with our Gaelic culture spanned his lifetime. His father Solomon was the local Teacher in Cashel School who had a lifetime involvement in teaching and promoting the Irish language. Kevin’s brothers Fr Malachy and Fr Brendan were deeply involved with the first Club in Greencastle in the 1930s as players and Fr Malachy also acted as Secretary of the West Tyrone Board in the same period.

When the present Greencastle club was reformed in 1969, Kevin was it’s first Treasurer and indeed his son Brendan who pre-deceased him was it’s first Secretary. Kevin’s family also competed in Scór from it’s earliest days as Club representatives.

Although not in robust health in recent years Kevin retained an interest in the progress of the Club to his death and he was particularly proud of the All Ireland success just 3 months ago.

As a mark of respect the Adult teams wore black armbands and a minutes silence was impeccably observed prior to the Fintona League game.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the entire family circle on the death of a lifetime Gael.
