News: All-Ireland titles for Ardfert, Greencastle
Date: 12th March 2007

Kerry's Ardfert claimed the All-Ireland intermediate football title on Saturday with a close 1-4 to 0-5 win over Eoghan Rua of Derry under lights at Croke Park.

Meanwhile, Greencastle of Tyrone edged Kerry's Duagh by 0-13 to 12 in the Junior final, thanks to some expert finishing.

Ardfert's clash with Eoghan Rua was littered with wides as neither side looked overly capable of taking a stanglehold of the game, but it was John Egan's ninth minute goal that helped the Kerryemen to a two-point lead at the break.

The Ulster side pressurised their opponents late on, but Ardfert defended a dicey goalmouth scramble to hang on for glory.

However, Kerry were denied a double trophy haul thanks to Greencastle, who led by the excellent Terry McDermott, claimed the win in a stern challenge with Duagh.

McDermott fired over six points, while captain Martin Conway also providing a handful of scores as Greencastle just held on.
