DUAGH v GREENCASTLE
(CROKE, SAT, 6.00pm)

Sunday, March 04, 2007

By Micheal McGeary

Greencastle will be deserted next Saturday evening as all roads lead to Croke Park as the local club bid to win the All Ireland Junior championship title.

It has been a marvellous run for the St Patrick's, winning the double in Tyrone before clinching the Ulster title just before Christmas but all that will be eclipsed when they become the first club from the O'Neill County to play at headquarters.

It's the stuff that dreams are made of and everybody is looking forward to the game against Kerry club Duagh, according to manager, former Tyrone defender Sean Teague.

"It has been all the talk in the area since we won the semi-final and everybody can't wait to get to Croke Park, it's almost like a dream.

"When we played in the first round of Ulster it was a novelty to us but after getting a taste of it we realised what was at the end of it all and you could see that in the way the players have trained.

"Big questions have been asked of us right through the run and the boys have come up with all the answers.

"In the semi-final against Killala we were slow to get going and gifted them an early goal but the lads showed how badly they wanted it in the second half as we held them scoreless.

"In the final we need to get out of the blocks quickly. I'm trying to find out as much information as I can about Duagh and the fact that they are from Kerry means they won't be too bad as sides from that county have won this competition this past two years," he said.

Greencastle will be looking for big games from the likes of Mark Conway, Raymond McDermott and team captain Martin Conway in defence, giant duo Enda Clarke and Paddy Keenan in midfield and Kevin Ferrity, Barry Treacy and top scorer Terry McDermott up front.

It's a massive day for the club and the people and it's best summoned up by Sean's parting remarks.

"I enjoyed my Tyrone career and am proud of what I achieved but this All Ireland final will be the biggest game of my career, without a doubt.

"It's something special to be involved with your own club on an occasion like this."
