1988
The
Annual General Meeting was held for the third time in Creggan
Community Centre, on Sunday 24th January 1988. This was a
significant date in that this would be the last AGM outside
out own premises.
The
Committee elected was:
President:
Rev Fr Seamus Shields PP
Chairman: Francis Bradley
Vice-Chairman: Peter Tracey
Secretary: Sean Clarke
Assistant Secretary: Colum Devln
Treasurer: Eugene McKenna
Assistant Treasurer: Frankie Clarke
Committee: Gerard Coyle, Gerard Kirk, Eugene McCullagh, Frank
Ward and Pat Clarke.
The
new field was almost ready to play on and the dressing rooms
and Centre were almost ready. It was hoped to have the Official
Opening on the 8th May, but in the event it was not possible
to have our opening that day and instead the "Big Day"
was postponed until the 24th July 1988.
On
the playing field, 1988 began in a very similar manner to
previous years and it soon became evident that league success
would be very difficult to achieve so the efforts of the team
were now channelled towards the Championship. That saw a first
round clash with Brackaville at Omagh on the 3rd July. However
defeat was the lot on a scoreline of 3-09 to 0-07, when once
again the scoreline was not a true reflection of the game
as not for the first time very mistake made by Greencastle
was punished to the full.
