The
league was well organised now and began on the 10th February.
In the first match, Greencastle defeated Leckpatrick by 4-02
to 3-03. The teams were 15-a-side at this time. The second
match resulted in defeat at the hands of Newtownstewart by
0-05 to 1-00. In the return match at Greencastle, victory
went to the home side, by a 2 pt margin. The Junior Championship
saw Greencastle defeat Tattysallagh.
At
the League game against Omagh on 9th June, presentation was
made to team captain Stephen Fox on the occasion of his recent
marriage and departure from the parish. The presentation was
made my Malachy C. McAleer PET Secretary of the club, who
complimented Stephen on his leadership and qualities as treasurer,
who pulled the club from a state of financial embarrassment
to one of financial security.
In
the semi-final of the West Tyrone Championship, victory was
secured over Urney at Newtownstewart. This led to a West Tyrone
final appearance again Newtownstewart, at Omagh on 25th August.
Another hard-fought game between these great rivals resulted
in a draw 2-03 each. The replay took place on the 3rd November,
which victory going to Greencastle on a score of 3-09 to Newtownstewart's
0-02. The Greencastle team was: A. McAleer, S. Fox, C. Donnelly,
F.H. McBride, M. McAleer, E. Fox, P. Keenan, T. McDermott,
F. Bradley, P. Tracey, P. McCrory, B. Hoy, P. O'Neill, G.

The
Junior League was not quite as successful as the previous
year with Greencastle finishing in 3rd place behind Newtownstewart
and Urney. Out of the twelve games played six were won, five
were defeats and one draw.
The
final of the Junior Championship against Coalisland was played
in Omagh on 24th November. Greencastle equalised in the last
minute of the game from a free by J. McCrory. However a draw
was a fair result after a thrilling game. The star of the
game was P. O'Neill and he was responsible for most of the
scores. A. McAleer also had a fine game in goals. The final
score was 1-04 each.

The
replay of the Championship took place on 3rd April 1947. The
match was very poor owing to bad weather conditions and strong
winds. At half time the score was Coalisland 2-00, Greencastle
0-01. Both Coalisland goals were the result of defensive mistakes.
In the second-half, Greencastle attacked continuously, but
could only add a further 2 points, leaving the final score
Coalisland 2-00 Greencastle 0-03.
